Handmade soap and the new natural standards.
I got an interesting email the other day from Jack Corley of
Trilogy fragrances explaining the new sel that is going
to be used to signify the standardization of natural aspects
of the bath and body industry. Natural Products Association
is the organization and it will offer a logo that says the products
of your company are certified by them which allows you place
their logo on your website. A brief explanation can be found
at their website naturalproductsassoc.org. Here you will find
a beginning explanation of what is expected from the members
in order to say that their products are natural. The site and
standards are not complete yet and we will be keeping an eye
out for the result of this project.
What exactly is natural. Most consumers would not consider petroleum
based products to be natural. We here at the soap never used
petroleum products in our handmade soap. Others would
argue that that because it comes out of the ground it is as
natural as any other earth product. This is the reason behind
setting standards like those of the Natural Product association.
If we can't agree on what is natural we may be able to agree
on a standard that helps consumers make an informed decision.
There might be some resistance to this natural products certification
in the beginning, but it can only help sales in the long run.
My personal favorite aspect about this program is that it is
being undertaken by the industry itself and not by government
regulators that could really hurt small operations and newcomers
to our industry. If you find any new information about the trend
to certify natural bath and body products please forward
the information here to our webmaster so we can share it with
our readers. Thanks for your interest..
